Red Tide Solutions main and only web site, this one or redtideflorida.org was hacked.
Without going into any paranoid ramblings. I was able to closed all security holes and clean up the mess they made. If you know me personally and like to hear my paranoid ramblings about this issue. Please contact me.
Please rest assured that since Florida Red Tide Solutions may be the only independent site reporting on Florida Red tide that’s still left standing, I feel it’s doubly important to keep it running.
With between 300-1000 unique readers per month, I feel I’ve done a fair job of raising awareness of Florida Red Tide issues since 2005. I do feel overwhelmed as this doesn’t apy, and I work at my regular job 68 hours a week. If you have any writing skills or business management skills please pitch in and help. but I’ll take what I can get even if its just enough of your time to read the articles and put less fertilizer (or better yet, none!) on your lawns.

Hello long time, recent and first time readers of Florida Red Tide Solutions! My name is Texx Smith and I’m the sole operator here. I usually am very good at adding new content. However since February of this year I’ve been very busy supplying the Data Systems and General IT services for a WIND Certification Entity participating with the state of Florida’s My Safe Florida Home program. A lot of you have probably noticed the number of new articles per month has dropped off the charts.
The good news is that I’m finally starting to work normal business type hours for money, now I can put in some man hours for Red Tide and spend more time with family. there will be several Florida Red Tide articles posted in the next few days. Even one from a guest writer.
Here’s a hint about some upcoming articles:
- Breaking news about lawmakers and Red Tide
- Red Tide in Washington state
- Local Politicians testify about Red Tide to Feds
- Breaking News about Maine’s Red Tide
- Educational / Science article by a guest writer
Before even the first article is written or posted however, the red tide report will be updated.
Then some articles.
Then I’m setting up a forum here where it’ll be easy for the public to add their own Florida red tide reports or global red tide reports environmental news etc.
Stop back soon.

Hello! Texx Smith here. I’m the producer, designer, developer, editor and marketer for this web site Red Tide Florida.
I’m very pleased to say that several readers have made accounts and would like to write and article (post) or two for this web site. This is great for the public because the more true information the public gets about red tide, the more people will see how easy it is to control red tide. Maybe someone’s words will even inspire the next inventor to develop a cure for red tide.

Our organization, Red Tide Solutions is going to close temporarily, while we concentrate our resources other subjects.
We will soon have a whole new look.
We certainly need volunteers more now than ever.
We need people to:
- Administer other volunteers
- Attend public meetings
- Plan Events
- Scientific Research
- and much more
I’ll write up a better list later and begin contacting the list of people who have called already.
I’ll also concentrate on the web site. Getting the Florida Red Tide Report page up to date and keeping that way. Second priority will be adding new posts and answering the e-mails that come in.
Thanks so much to everyone who has contacted me through the last 45 days. It’s just me now and I’ve already got a lot on my plate. If you have the urge to help with the content of this site there are many ways you can help. They all start with creating a profile here at Red Tide Florida.

Three southwest Florida congressional representatives, U.S. Reps. Vern Buchanan, R-Longboat Key; Kathy Castor, D-Tampa; and Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers, are listening to the public outcry for help. They’ve been hearing all the people who have been speaking up, Like us, Red Tide Alert, Bob Rigby, Venice High School, the city of Venice, The Lee county government.
The legislation would triple the amount of federal money now spent on researching red tide and similar blooms.
The research money would be awarded on a competitive, scientifically peer-reviewed basis, and researchers would report their progress each year to Congress.

Lots of exciting news for the Florida Red Tide Coalition!
The smallest but most obvious change will be our name. Since we’ve formally turns ourselves into a Not for Profit Corporation, we felt it was the right time for a new name to go along with our new, more focused, mission statement. The new official name is Florida Red Tide Solutions. Since we’ve already developed a web presence under the name “Florida Red Tide Coalition” and Florida Red Tide is what we’re all about, we may continue to “DBA” the Florida Red Tide Coalition.

To most of us the link between the increase in intensity, frequency and size of the red tide blooms here in Florida and fertilizer run off is obvious. After Red Tide is an algae, algae is a plant and fertilizer makes plants grow. However our state government and the research groups it sponsors (like F.W.R.I., Mote Marine, S.T.A.R.T.) continually say there is “no evidence” that suggests a link between runoff polluted with fertilizer and red tide. Well The Red Tide Coalition has found some more of this evidence that they can’t seem to find.

That’s not the only environmental issue they’ve been caught directly lying about. Seems someone at the Governors mansion feels bad about what they’ve been doing and is leaking things to environmental groups and the press! More on that later but for now:

TALLAHASSEE — After two years of hurricanes, red tide scares, and depleted fish stocks, Florida’s environmental groups want to give the state’s next governor a simple message: Our waters and coastlines are in trouble.
And they hope a rising tide of public pressure will force Florida’s next governor and Legislature to take the varied threats more seriously.
Twenty state and national organizations released a report Tuesday titled “Florida’s Coastal and Ocean Future,” which makes dozens of sweeping recommendations, from toughening rules for coastal development to reducing water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
At a news conference in Tallahassee, the groups said they wanted Florida’s next governor to recognize the state was facing environmental and economic challenges because of over-fishing, rampant coastal construction, and polluting that threatened the state’s tourism-dependent economy.
