Large Red Tide with Fish Kill in Southwest Florida

Several independent and main stream sources indicate the continuation of a large red tide bloom off the shore of most of southwest Florida.  Currently there is a large fish kill off the coast near the mouth of the Caloosahatchee river.  Last reports have it placed at a few miles offshore and moving in quickly.  Dead fish are also washing ashore new on Sanibel Island near the famous lighthouse on Lighthouse Beach.  This large bloom is effecting Lee, Collier and Monroe county coastlines to varying degrees, the worst of it seems to be in Lee county, right off the mouth of the Caloosahatchee river.

Red Tide encompasses all of The Florida Keys

A massive red tide bloom is effecting all of the Florida keys to some degree depending on the weather conditions of the moment. Some days the wind is pushing it away from the coast some days it’s pushing it closer and still other days it seems to be broken up entirely.  Evidently it’s not connected to the one a little north of it in southwest Florida because it’s all along the east coast of the keys.  The area effected goes from Miami to Key West.
