OMAHA, Nebraska (AP) – A 23-year-old Florida man is on trial for murder related to the shooting of his father. The man told the police that his father wanted to shoot him.
The Omaha World Herald reported that a Douglas County judge Wednesday ordered 23-year-old Julian Lopez, of Palm Bay, Florida, to be prosecuted, and to monitor the weapons used in the murder of his father, 40-year-old Jose Valenzuala. .
Lopez was visiting her father, fiancée, and 5-year-old half-brother at the time of the accident. According to the investigator’s statement, Valenzuala asked his son Lopez to break into his bedroom and shoot him.
Lopez said in a statement that he initially fired two shots at the wall, then went to Valenzuala and fired two shots at him.
Lopez’s attorney argued that the intent to kill was not premeditated and demanded that the trial continue with the premeditated murder.
Lopez was on probation for a year in Brevard County for stabbing her stepfather nine times with a knife.
