A Florida man has been charged with racketeering the family of Representative Gates.
Federal prosecutors on Tuesday indicted a Florida man. The man tried to defraud Don Gates, father of American actor Matt Gates, with $25 million, allegedly related to a criminal investigation.
Prosecutors have charged 62-year-old Stephen Alford with attempting to defraud $25 million by contacting Don Gaetz. The congressman was convicted of having sex with a minor while under investigation. Regarding the investigation, Alford claimed that he could help Gates obtain a pardon from former President Donald Trump.
The investigation does not directly refer to the pro-Trump representative or the man (his father) who was the former president of the Florida Senate. However, according to the investigation, Gates showed an extortion plan against him, and these documents were made public, which led to widespread scrutiny.
“Federal prosecutors are investigating whether Gates had sex with a child,” the law enforcement agency told Reuters and other news outlets. He hasn’t faced any crime yet, but he has said time and time again that he took the wrong step.”
Alford did not deny that he called the Gates family for the money, in a statement to the Northwest Florida Daily earlier this year. He said he and his friends were trying to partner with the Gates family to rescue Robert Levinson, a CIA agent who went missing in 2007.
The case is being investigated by the FBI and is being prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office in the North Florida District of the United States. According to the press release, Alford could face up to 25 years in prison for all of his crimes.
According to records, it is not yet known if Alford had a lawyer.
