Florida Man December 27 (12/27)

The 23-year-old man admitted to police that he smashed an ATM to get excess cash, and was taken into custody after bank officials stated that the attack caused a maximum of $5,000 in damages.

Cocoa police charged Michael Joseph Olsek of Merritt Island on Friday, with misconduct in the criminal justice system for nearly an entire month while investigating violence at a Wells Fargo branch at 834 N. Cocoa Boulevard, Cocoa.

Police said surveillance footage showed Oleksek sitting at an ATM on November 29 and hitting an electronic touch screen used by cashiers.

Oleksek then apologized and called the bank and told the bank manager that he had thrown a stone at the ATM because he was “angry that the ATM was giving the bank too much cash and he wasn’t sure which way to go”. Records indicate. Oleksek added that the ATM was not working and needed to get back to work, and apologized for the damage to the bank’s ATM.

Wells Fargo contacted the Cocoa Police Department and asked for charges. Oleksek was arrested Friday and transferred to the Brevard County Jail Complex in Sharps.
