Florida Man May 12 (5/12)

Daytona Beach (Florida). Authorities released television footage showing an unusual incident in which a naked man was arrested at an airport in Florida. Then he claimed that a bomb had been planted in his bathroom.

Video footage shows officers searching for the suspect in the baggage claim area of Daytona Beach International Airport at 6:06 a.m. Friday. The suspect jumped into the baggage claim department, and the police asked him to lie down.

After the man refused to heed police warnings, he was given an electric shock.

The video shows a man telling officers that he had taken Molly.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the suspect later told MPs there was a bomb inside the building and said, “We need to get out of here or the bomb will go off.” The bomb was placed in the bathroom. This comment was not heard in the leaked video.

Investigators discovered a wall under the construction of the women’s bathroom. It appears to have been dug into it. The suspect’s clothes were found in a bag by a group of sappers, which were not contaminated with explosives.

Chitwood has identified the suspect as 25-year-old John T. Greenwood. He is a “frequent traveler” and is well known to law officers in Daytona Beach. Greenwood was charged with assaulting an officer in 2007. Greenwood also faces seven counts of theft of his home and car. Chitwood claims that Greenwood was forced to undergo psychiatric examinations under the Baker Act twice.

Greenwood was taken to hospital and charged with false reporting of bomb implants, burglary, criminal injury, and resisting arrest and disclosure of genitals.

Jay Cassins, a spokesman for the airport, said approximately 225 passengers were temporarily transferred during search operations at the airport. The airport reopened the next day.
